Flagstaff, Arizona is a hidden ski gem only two hours North of Phoenix. My buddy and I heard from Phoenix that there was a storm in Flagstaff on a Thursday and that’s when we started making our plans. We woke up at 5 am to beat the traffic and made the two hour drive to Snowbowl in Flagstaff, AZ. The conditions were perfect! The sky was blue and the powder was deep.

We met a local on the chair lift and he said that this storm brought the most snow he had seen in 20 years. I would have never thought I would have this quality of skiing in Arizona. Snowbowl has an easy family section and a back bowl section so people of all skill levels can ski. The lift tickets are reasonably priced and the lines don’t get too crowded! Unfortunately there was so much powder that the back bowl was closed for avalanche bombing. The resort owns an old military artillery canon and fire it into the snow to settle loose, avalanche prone sections. Once they opened the back bowl we hiked up and enjoyed a fresh sheet of snow.

Flagstaff, AZ is a hidden ski gem located just two hours North of Phoenix. After hiking up the “Upper Bowl” and bombing down the “Logjam” run, try a bloody Mary at Agassiz Lodge. Their home made mix will renew the strength in your legs.
