The Zugspitze peak is the highest point in Germany. It stands at 9,728 feet (2,962 meters). In order to reach the peak, you can either go through the mountain in a train car that was built in 1930 or take the new aerial cableway “Seilbahn Zugspitze” that opened in 2017.

Zugspitze Ski Map

There are two ski areas you can enjoy in Garmisch. The ski area on Alpspitze (on the left) and the ski area on Zugspitze (on the right). Both areas can be skied in the same weekend. There is not a lot of extreme terrain on Alpspitze and the slopes are all mostly groomed. Also, the open bowl on the Zugspize offers plenty of space to practice your turns. That makes this location great for families or people just learning how to ski.

The view from the zugspitze

Once you reach the top of Zugspitze, you have to take a cable car down into the ski area below. The entire area is a big bowl above the tree line, which offers incredible views.

The Winter Olympics were held in Garmisch in 1930. You can still see the Olympic ski jump arena in the town.
